Spring Hill started in 1967 as a planned community built by the Deltona Corporation and the Mackle Brothers, and it kept growing. More than 113,000 people lived here at the 2020 Census, yet it is not a city at all. It is a census-designated place in Hernando County, and the county line with Pasco runs along County Line Road at its southern edge.
Getting around means US 19 on the west side, Mariner Boulevard and Spring Hill Drive through the middle, and the Suncoast Parkway to the east. Weeki Wachee Springs State Park sits just north, where US 19 meets SR 50. Out toward the Gulf there is Hernando Beach and Linda Pedersen Park. And there are 55-plus communities such as Timber Pines, with more than 3,400 homes.
